Adrian Lester And John Simm In Trauma For ITV

ITV has announced that Adrian Lester (Hustle) and John Simm (State of Play) will star in new three-part psychological thriller Trauma, written by Mike Bartlett (Doctor Foster), which explores what happens when we are let down by the institutions established to protect us.

Trauma centres on the lives of two fathers, factory manager Dan Bowker (John Simm) and surgeon Jon Allerton (Adrian Lester), whose lives collide when Dan’s 15 year-old son Alex is stabbed and tragically dies in the trauma department attended by Allerton.

Devastated and heartbroken, Alex’s father, Dan, believes Jon is responsible for Alex’s death and as he strives for justice, he begins to unpick the very fabric of Jon’s life. Are Dan’s concerns about how Jon cared for his son in his hour of need justified or are his actions borne of overpowering grief?

The cast also includes Rowena King (Lie To Me) as Jon’s wife Lisa Allerton, Jade Anouka (Chewing Gum) as their 18 year old daughter Alana, and Lyndsey Marshal (Rome) as Dan’s wife Susie Bowker.

Mike Bartlett says: “Trauma is a story about two fathers with very different lives, locked in conflict. I hope the series will be moving, terrifying and timely… If we increasingly mistrust institutions and experts, what happens when we desperately need them?”

“I wrote Trauma knowing we needed, and hoping we’d get, hugely talented actors for the roles. But this cast has exceeded expectations. I’m a huge fan of all of them individually and can’t wait to see them on screen together.”

Trauma begins filming this June in and around London.
