BBC Two To Bring Zadie Smith’s NW London To Life

BBC Two has announced that the forthcoming adaptation of Zadie Smith’s NW, written by Rachel Bennette (Bel Ami), will star Nikki Amuka-Bird (Luther) and Phoebe Fox (A View From The Bridge), and be directed by Saul Dibb (The Duchess).

NW is the story of Natalie (Amuka-Bird) and Leah (Fox), two friends who grew up together on a council estate in North West London, but whose lives have taken them in different directions. Whilst Leah has not ventured far, Natalie has become a barrister, living in an affluent neighbourhood.

Lucy Richer, BBC Acting Controller of Drama and Executive Producer, says: “With the story of two young women at its heart, NW will capture the beauty and challenges of true friendship as class differences threaten to divide them and they each struggle with conforming to society.”

“As we are taken on their journey, we hope this special one-off drama with many contemporary and relatable themes will touch the BBC Two audience, and we are delighted that Zadie Smith has allowed us to bring her story to screen in a truly authentic way.”

Filming for NW started this week and will take place mainly in North West London, with locations including Kilburn Station and Queen’s Park.
