Channel 4 Confirms Ackley Bridge For Another Term

Channel 4 has announced that Ackley Bridge will return for a split run of twelve new episodes in 2018, with filming set to begin in Halifax later this year.

Ackley Bridge is a Yorkshire mill town, where the school systems have become segregated like their communties. However as two comprehensives are merged into a brand new academy, Ackley Bridge College, the lives and cultures of each are set to collide.

Spearheading the new academy is head teacher Mandy Carter (Jo Joyner) who is determined to make it a success, even at a cost to her marriage to P.E teacher Steve Bell (Paul Nicholls). However, the discovery that ex-boyfriend, and ex-offender, Sami (Arsher Ali) is now a fellow teacher means life at Ackley Bridge College is about to get a whole lot more complicated.

The series explores the chaos and camaraderie of the school experience whilst exploring the challenges of integration in traditionally divided communities, and has attracted an average of 2.2 million viewers for season one so far, with an 11% share of the available audience.

Head of Drama at Channel 4, Beth Willis, says, “Roll on the next term at Ackley Bridge! Channel 4 is so thrilled to be working again with the brilliant producing and writing team and the super talented cast on this funny, thoughtful, incredibly special show. I’m bagging a seat at the front of the class.”
