Chewing Gum Returns To E4 For Second Series

Filming has begun on a six episode second series of Chewing Gum, written by and starring Michaela Coel. The series is inspired by Coel’s award-winning one-woman play Chewing Gum Dreams which premiered at the Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick in 2012 before transferring to the National Theatre in 2014.

Chewing Gum follows sheltered, religious, Beyoncé-obsessed 24-year-old Tracey Gordon (Coel) who wants to have sex and learn more about the world – but the more she learns, the less she understands.

At the end of the first series, we saw Tracey and Connor leaving the Pensbourne Estate, dressed only in their pants, walking off into the sunset. Both had been thrown out of home, Cynthia’s wedding day ended in disaster, Connor lost his job, and their lives were all in a bit of a mess. Things weren’t looking great.

Series two welcomes back Michaela Coel (London Spy) as Tracey Gordon, Danielle Walters (Kill Your Friends) and Kadiff Kirwan (The Vote) as Candice and her boyfriend Aaron, Susan Wokoma (Crashing) as Tracey’s Ludo-loving sister Cynthia, Robert Lonsdale (The Interceptor) as Tracey’s boyfriend Connor, Olisa Odele (My Parents Are Aliens) as Ola, Maggie Steed (Stella) as no-nonsense Esther, and Shola Adewusi (Quartet) as Tracey’s mother Joy.

The second series of Chewing Gum will air on E4 later this year.
