David Morrissey To Play Miéville’s Inspector Borlú

BBC Two has announced that David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) will play Inspector Tyador Borlú in a four-part adaptation of China Miéville’s novel The City And The City, written by Tony Grisoni (The Young Pope).

The body of a foreign student is discovered in the streets of the down at heel city of Besźel. Inspector Tyador Borlú of the Extreme Crime Squad finds evidence that the dead girl came from the city of Ul Qoma, but the relationship between the two cities defies comprehension and will challenge everything Borlú holds dear.

China Miéville says: “It’s been fascinating and moving to witness the translation from fiction to script… What they’re making feels both familiar, sending me right back to the book, and yet very much their own, something I’m eager to discover. I’m extremely impatient for it!”

The City And The City will be filmed on location in Manchester and Liverpool, and directed by Tom Shankland (The Missing). The cast includes Mandeep Dhillon (Some Girls), Maria Schrader (Deutschland 83), Ron Cook (Mr Selfridge), Danny Webb (Humans), and Christian Camargo (Penny Dreadful).
