ITV True Crime Drama Muncie To Star Douglas Henshall

ITV has announced that three part drama Muncie, based on Lanarkshire Detective William Muncie’s (Douglas Henshall) quest to bring notorious Scottish killer Peter Manuel (Martin Compston) to justice, begins filming in Scotland this month.

At the age of sixteen, Manuel was investigated by Muncie for a string of sexual assaults, for which he was sentenced to nine years in Peterhead Prison. For this, Manuel vowed revenge.

Released from prison in 1955, Manuel embarked on a two-year killing spree, claiming eight lives in South Lanarkshire. He also made Muncie his Number One target audience, sending him birthday cards and leaving tantalising clues.

Manuel evaded capture for so long because he had no discernible motive and his victims were chosen at random. Muncie was the one man who had Manuel’s measure and doggedly refused to give up until he was brought to justice.

ITV’s Controller of Drama, Victoria Fea, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Nick Stevens, whose scripts perfectly capture Manuel’s personal vendetta against the man who struggled to bring him to justice.”
