Line Of Duty Creator Provides BBC With Bodyguard

BBC One has commissioned Bodyguard, a new six part drama written and created by Jed Mercurio (Line Of Duty), which will feature the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service.

Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard will follow a team of RaSP officers whose duties involve protecting royals, politicians and diplomats. The team is led by a heroic but volatile Gulf War veteran who is expected to lay down his life for the rich and powerful.

Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, says: “Jed Mercurio has created an original and modern take on the crime genre for BBC One. In his own unique and clever way, the series takes us into the corridors of power in thrilling style – all seen through the eyes of the bodyguard.”

Jed Mercurio says: “I’m immensely flattered by the unstinting support my work has received from Charlotte Moore and the whole BBC Drama Team. I’m grateful for the opportunity to create a brand-new thriller series for the BBC.”
