Zoë Wanamaker & Miranda Richardson Are Girlfriends

ITV has announced that Zoë Wanamaker, Miranda Richardson and Phyllis Logan will star in Girlfriends, a new six-part drama from Kay Mellor (In the Club) about three women who are approaching 60 and struggling to cope with life’s problems.

Whilst on their anniversary cruise, Linda’s (Phyllis Logan) husband Micky disappears from their cabin. He’s been drinking heavily and when the balcony door is found ajar, it seems that he may have committed suicide or accidentally fallen into the sea.

Meanwhile, Sue (Miranda Richardson) has spent the last 30 years having an affair with bridal magazine editor, John, who is also the father of her adult son, Andrew. However, John has taken a shine to younger model Stacey and wants to promote her into Sue’s job as Features Editor.

Finally, Gail (Zoë Wanamaker) has received her decree nisi from husband Dave and has six weeks and a day to win him back before the divorce becomes absolute. But can Gail switch her focus from wayward son Tom, who has just been released from prison, and grandson Ben to concentrate on saving her marriage?

Miranda Richardson said: “A whole summer spent working on a women-driven script, written and directed by a woman who has proved herself many times over as a force of nature in TV drama alongside some of our most gifted female actors – what’s not to like?”

Zoë Wanamaker added: “I’m looking forward to working on this exciting new series with such a stellar cast. I have long been a fan of Kay’s work and am relishing the opportunity to work alongside Miranda and Phyllis.”
